Maribor is located in the static region Pohorje along the river Drava, at the place where the river leaves the Alps. On the other side of the river are many vineyards on the sloping countryside of Pohorje. Maribor has a rich wine tradition. Here you can find the  oldest known grapevine in the world with an age of almost 400 years.

Maribor is the 2nd largest city in Slovenia after the capital Ljubljana. The city is always full of life, where there’s lots to see and lots to do. Every year numerous festivals, sports events and happenings are organized here.

The old town has a lot to offer. One can enjoy a nice walk along the banks of the river Drava and it's fantastic strolling through the lively streets and squares where history and tradition mixes with dynamism and modernism. Also you can find here castles, museums, the old winery, remnants of the former city walls, the cathedral of Bishop Slomšek, the Jewish synagogue, the Art Gallery and the theater.

The green Pohorje is the ideal place for walkers, cyclists, adrenaline seekers and lovers of peace and nature. This peace can be found in the primeval forest, the waterfalls and the peat lands of Pohorje. During the winter months, when Mariborsko Pohorje is covered with snow, the region is an attractive vacation resort. It is one of the most attractive ski centers in Slovenia.
Who would like to relax after attempting numerous activities, can visit one of the wellness centers.

Picturesque wine routes crisscross over the slopes of the Pohorje and hills with grapevines can be found all the way to the Austrian border. The cultural wine route is not only a must for wine connoisseurs, but also for lovers of culinary and traditional customs, of ethnological heritage and of beautiful panoramic views. These tours can be made by bike, by foot, by horse or by car. Tourist farms and vineyards await you with homemade culinary delights and genuine hospitality.
